Just when fans thought Squid Game couldn’t get any more intense, the show pulled off one final twist — and it came with serious star power. In the jaw-dropping final moments of Season 3, none other than Hollywood icon Cate Blanchett made a surprise appearance, leaving viewers around the world doing a double take.

The season had already taken fans on an emotional rollercoaster. Gi-hun (played brilliantly by Lee Jung-jae) was on a mission to end the brutal games once and for all, clashing with the ruthless Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) in a battle of wills. But just when it seemed like the story was winding down, the screen faded into a new, unexpected setting: a quiet street in downtown Los Angeles.

That’s when it happened. As the Front Man paused at a red light, the distant sound of ddakji echoed. A sharp slap, a spinning tile — and there she was. A sleek figure in a tailored suit playing ddakji with a stranger in a dark alley. She glanced up briefly, and viewers instantly recognized the face: Cate Blanchett. No lines. No theatrics. Just one powerful look exchanged with the Front Man before she turned back to the game.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk later confirmed the cameo was very real. “We wanted someone who could command attention without saying a word — someone mysterious and unforgettable. Cate was that person.”

Despite her packed schedule, Blanchett filmed the whole scene in one seamless take. Fans were floored. Social media lit up with praise and wild theories about what her role could mean for the future of the franchise.

In just a few seconds of screen time, Cate Blanchett managed to steal the show. And now, fans are left wondering — is there more to come?
