Talks are underway for Matchbox Shots in India to create a project on the late Sidhu Moose Wala. Matchbox Shots has obtained the rights to Jupinderjit Singh’s best-selling 2023 book,
“Who Killed Moosewala?,” written by a crime journalist. The Climbing Tale of Bloodshed in Punjab
Before being assassinated in broad daylight on May 29, 2022, Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, also known as Sidhu Moose Wala, was an Indian rapper, singer, and songwriter who rose to fame from a Punjabi village in the mainstream music industry. He was in his 28s.
Matchbox Shots is still debating whether to proceed with a film or television series.
Variety quotes Jupinderjit Singh as saying, “Many production houses expressed interest in the book as soon as it was published.
We have always found the macabre relationship between the music industry and gang wars in Punjab extremely intriguing,
Matchbox Shots’ Sarita Patil continued. We are confident that Jupinderjit’s book “Who Killed Moosewala?” provides a solid foundation for our narrative.
“The story is an intricate interplay of crime, fame, and music in Punjab, a narrative that demands contemplation and understanding,” Matchbox Shots’ Dikssha Jyote Routray continued.
In May 2022, Moosewala was shot and killed in the Mansa district of Punjab. He was killed by six shooters while travelling to Jawaharke village in Mansa in a jeep with his cousin and a friend.
The Punjab police special investigation team (SIT) is looking into his death and has filed chargesheets against 32 people, including gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi, Goldy Brar, and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria.
The quality of work that Matchbox Shots is putting out really impressed me, and I’m happy that they’ve acquired the rights to the book so they can expand on it.
