Bollywood star Sanya Malhotra’s latest film, Mrs, has taken streaming platforms by storm, setting new records and dominating online searches. The movie premiered on ZEE5 with a historic opening, making it the platform’s biggest release to date. Additionally, it became the most-searched film on Google, further solidifying its massive success.
Directed by Arati Kadav, Mrs is the official Bollywood remake of the Malayalam film The Great Indian Kitchen. The story follows Richa, a trained dancer, who finds herself trapped in household responsibilities after marriage. Struggling to reclaim her identity, she navigates societal expectations and personal aspirations, a theme that has deeply resonated with audiences.

Since its release on ZEE5 earlier this week, Mrs has sparked widespread discussions on the challenges women face in traditional marriages. With its powerful storytelling and Sanya Malhotra’s compelling performance, the film has captivated both fans and critics.
On Tuesday, ZEE5 announced the film’s milestone achievement via Instagram, celebrating its record-breaking debut. The platform highlighted that Mrs had secured the title of the most-searched film on Google, proving its growing popularity and impact.
Fans have flooded social media with praise for the movie, especially Malhotra’s stellar performance. One viewer called her acting “fab,” while another enthusiastically commented, “Great, very well deserved.”
Beyond its streaming success, Mrs has also gained international recognition. The film premiered at prestigious festivals, including the 2023 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, and served as the closing film at the 2024 New York Indian Film Festival. Malhotra’s remarkable performance even earned her the Best Actress award, further cementing the film’s legacy.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Kadav shared her inspiration behind adapting Mrs. “I wanted this story to be set in North India and reach a wider audience. This film is incredibly relevant here. I made this for my mother, who couldn’t watch The Great Indian Kitchen beyond 15-20 minutes,” she revealed.
With its gripping narrative, strong performances, and cultural relevance, Mrs continues to make waves, proving that stories of empowerment and resilience deserve to be told—and heard.
