Instagram has recently restricted access to the profiles of several prominent Pakistani celebrities and influencers in India, following a legal directive. The affected accounts include those of Mahira Khan, Hania Aamir, and Ali Zafar—three widely loved public figures with massive followings. Indian users trying to view their profiles now see a message that reads, “Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.”

This development reflects increasing digital censorship and mirrors earlier actions taken by the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Previously, the ministry blocked access to 16 Pakistani YouTube channels for their reporting on the Pahalgam attack. These channels had questioned the official narrative presented by the Modi-led government and exposed discrepancies, leading to widespread debate.

Moreover, Indian authorities blocked not only independent creators but also major Pakistani news networks like Dawn News, Geo News, ARY News, Samaa TV, and Express News. Even Shoaib Akhtar, a former Pakistani cricketer turned YouTuber, found his channel restricted. Indian authorities have blocked access to this content, displaying a message that states, “This content is currently unavailable in this country because of an order from the government related to national security or public order.”

While Indian authorities cite legal and national security concerns for these restrictions, critics argue that such actions limit cross-border dialogue and artistic exchange. Many fans and users have expressed disappointment over not being able to engage with their favorite celebrities’ content.

In a time when digital platforms serve as vital spaces for connection and communication, such restrictions raise important questions about freedom of expression and information flow. As tensions between the two countries continue to influence online platforms, the clampdown on celebrity and media accounts highlights the growing intersection of politics and digital culture.
