According to an Indian financial journal, Mohammed Azharuddin, a Congress leader and former Indian captain, suggested Sania’s candidature.
Azharuddin has close family ties to the Mirza family because his son is married to Anam Mirza.
The publication cited an unknown party source when it stated that Mirza would be the political party’s nominee to challenge Hyderabad-based All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi in the next Lok Sabha elections.
Political analysts surmise that the Congress party, which last emerged victorious in Hyderabad in 1980 when K S Narayan was elected as the Member of Parliament, is attempting to capitalise on the fame of the former national tennis player to regain its lost ground in the state’s electoral landscape.
Telangana is the capital city of southern India. Mirza is an ideal candidate since she is a woman from a minority group and was formerly Hyderabad’s ambassador for the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS).
Mirza meets the requirements exactly because she is a woman from a minority community and was formerly Hyderabad’s ambassador under the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS).
The AIMIM lead by Owaisi has maintained a foothold in the Hyderabad constituency due to its diverse demographics and rich cultural history.
But in the impending election, the Indian National Congress’s recent comeback has presented a serious threat to the party’s hegemony.
Notably, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi emerged victorious in the 1984 Hyderabad seat both as an independent and as an AIMIM candidate from 1989 to 1999. From 2004,
Asaduddin has continued the legacy. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he faced off against 14 other candidates and was victorious with 58.94% of the total votes.
In terms of the polls, they will take place over the course of seven phases, beginning on April 19 and concluding on June 1. The voting will be for 543 parliamentary constituencies.
