Hamza Ali Abbasi, a renowned Pakistani actor and social commentator, has amassed a large following with over 1.1 million Instagram fans. He gained critical acclaim for his breakthrough role in Pyare Afzal and has since starred in hit dramas like Mann Mayal, Alif, Meray Dard Ko Jo Zuban Miley, and Jaan-e-Jahan. Hamza is married to Naimal Khawar, and the couple shares a young son. Known for speaking his mind, Hamza recently posted a video that has stirred public debate.

Advocating Peace Amid Hostilities
In the video, Hamza Ali Abbasi expressed support for Talha Anjum and emphasized compassion toward India despite historical tensions. He stated, “The behavior I am seeing after India-Pakistan hostilities forced me to post this video. I want to say that having hostility does not justify hating an entire country, especially when they are our neighbors. If we act otherwise, we risk becoming like Arnab Goswamis and General Bakhshis. Not all Indians are terrorists, and likewise, not all Pakistanis are terrorists. India also has many people who appreciate our art and culture and are not hostile.”
Hamza’s message focused on promoting understanding, highlighting that generalizing entire populations based on political conflicts is harmful. His intent was to encourage dialogue and empathy between the two nations.
Public Backlash and Mixed Reactions
However, his remarks triggered a wave of criticism online, with some labeling him a traitor. Fans wrote comments such as, “Shut up, you traitor,” and “The majority there supports the BJP, which is spreading anti-Pakistan sentiment.” Others questioned the timing, asking why he supported India while an upcoming Pakistani film was being released. Some comments were more hostile, raising concerns about Kashmir and regional tensions, while others attacked the broader artistic community, calling them disloyal.

Despite the backlash, Hamza’s stance reflects his willingness to voice his perspective and encourage dialogue on sensitive topics. His comments underline the challenge faced by public figures when discussing cross-border relations, especially in a climate of political tension and strong national sentiments.
