Filmmaker Nabeel Qureshi recently took to social media to honor Indian cinema icon Om Puri on the eighth anniversary of his passing. Qureshi, who had the rare opportunity to work with Puri in his 2016 film Actor in Law, expressed disbelief over the actor’s untimely death.

Reflecting on their collaboration, Nabeel Qureshi shared that he was only 30 years old when he directed such a legendary actor. “At just 30, I had the privilege to direct this extraordinary actor, whose craft was larger than life, yet whose heart was even bigger,” he wrote.

Qureshi emphasized that his connection with Puri went beyond their professional relationship. He fondly recalled the bond they built while working together, calling it one of the most cherished chapters of his life. “Om Puri Ji was loving, caring, and full of warmth — a compassionate human being above all else,” he expressed.

The filmmaker reminisced about the unforgettable memories they made together in Pakistan, India, and Dubai. He highlighted Puri’s hospitality, love for food, and ability to make others feel at ease. “I still remember how excited we were to meet again in February 2017 for the PSL in Dubai. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel comfortable — so much so that I sometimes forgot I was sitting with a living legend and took his kindness for granted,” Qureshi recalled.

As the loss of Puri weighed on him, Qureshi shared how he and producer Fizza Meerza frequently reflected on Puri’s wisdom and warmth. “We miss him deeply. Om Puri Ji was a man beyond borders, an artist who stood for peace and humanity. May his soul rest in eternal peace. His legacy continues to inspire us, and his memories will forever be etched in our hearts,” he said.

Puri’s legacy stretches far beyond his work with Qureshi. Renowned as a true pioneer of Indian cinema, Puri gained recognition for his dynamic range, transitioning seamlessly between commercial and parallel films. His landmark performances in Ardh Satya, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, and City of Joy solidified his place as one of the finest actors of his generation. His influence extended beyond India, as he achieved international recognition.

Puri’s enduring message of peace and humanity continues to inspire both actors and filmmakers today. His soul may rest in peace, but his profound influence on cinema and the hearts of those who knew him will never fade.
