Apple Original Films’ high-octane release F1, distributed by Warner Bros., made a powerful entrance at the global box office with a staggering $140 million debut. This total includes $85 million from international markets and $55 million from a strong three-day domestic weekend. Notably, the film earned $25 million on its opening Friday alone, just shy of Pitt’s best single-day performance.

This debut marks a career milestone for Brad Pitt, surpassing his previous best — the $112 million global opening of World War Z. Additionally, F1 secured an impressive A CinemaScore and a 92% PostTrak audience rating, signaling strong word-of-mouth that could propel its continued success.
Moreover, premium viewing formats played a major role in the film’s domestic performance, with IMAX and other high-end screens accounting for 58% of total domestic earnings. In comparison to past racing-themed blockbusters, F1 outpaced both Ford v. Ferrari and Days of Thunder in their opening weekends, further cementing its dominance in the genre.
Meanwhile, M3GAN 2.0, a sequel to the 2023 horror hit, underperformed against expectations. It debuted to $10.4 million across 3,112 theaters, with a Friday total of $4.5 million. Although it received a decent B+ CinemaScore and an 84% PostTrak score, early social and critical reactions hinted at a lukewarm reception compared to the original.
As the weekend rankings stand, F1 takes the number one spot, followed by How to Train Your Dragon with $19 million. Pixar’s Elio ranks third with $10.8 million, while M3GAN 2.0 settles at number four. Furthermore, 28 Years Later and Disney’s Lilo & Stitch continue to perform steadily in theaters.

Overall, F1 delivers a roaring start for Apple and Brad Pitt, setting the pace for the summer box office race.
