When money was tight, but joy and laughter were in plenty, Kumar remembered his early years.
His adventure began in Delhi, but in order to pursue his aspirations, he eventually moved to Mumbai.
“In a small house in Chandni Chowk, we lived as 24 people, all crammed into a single room,” Kumar said. He continued, “When we woke up for our morning exercises, we’d have to leap over one another just to get out.”
The actor continued to reside in a tiny rental home even after moving to Mumbai, paying a pitiful Rs. 100 per month in rent.
By God, not a day passed that we didn’t smile or laugh, recounted Kumar. Even now, despite our material comfort, we occasionally experience grief, but not then. We were quite happy eating our modest meals of dal, rice, cumin, potato, and okra.
Regarding his family’s custom of coming to the movies every Saturday, Kumar shared heartfelt memories.
On those particular days, they skip breakfast in order to save money for movie tickets.
Speaking candidly about his academic path, Kumar disclosed that he had failed the 7th grade and had to retake the full year.
He remembered the time his father confronted him and questioned his aspirations after he had failed. A motivated young man named Kumar answered, “An actor.”
