Due to what he considered a “dearth of good female voices” in Pakistan, musician Shiraz Uppal created a ground-breaking remedy in the form of Neha Gupta, the first “Indo-Pak” AI female vocalist.
Renowned S.U. Studios in Lahore is owned by Uppal, a renowned musician, composer, and producer with a 25-year musical heritage in both Pakistan and India.
Here, he skillfully combined technology and music to create Gupta, an artificial intelligence-generated being with vocal and musical production abilities.
Motivated by a desire to alleviate the dearth of exceptional female vocals in Pakistan, Uppal leveraged Gupta’s exceptional skills for his son Haadi Uppal’s most recent single, “Cheti Aa,” which was made available on Sunday.
There is a dearth of good female voices in Pakistan while India is full of female voices,” Uppal said, elaborating on his creative approach. I made the decision to develop a distinctive [female] voice that I may utilise whatever I choose. India hasn’t yet completed this.
He imagined that Gupta’s voice reverberates globally wherever Urdu is spoken, despite the political difficulties between Pakistan and India, underscoring the idea that art has no boundaries.
Due to restrictions on their ability to work in India, Pakistani artists frequently experience enormous success in their neighbour.
Recognizing this predicament, Uppal broke traditional boundaries by adding Gupta, an entity with an Indian name, to Neha.
The project, which was started last year, required months of AI training to capture the essence of the tone and timbre of a female singer. Uppal steered away from emulating popular voices like Shreya Ghoshal, opting for a “raw voice” closer to Indian vocalists Rekha Bhardwaj and Sunidhi Chauhan.
Interestingly, Uppal used a male falsetto to imitate Gupta’s voice, portraying a middle-aged woman in her early 30s.
After receiving excellent feedback for his son’s debut song, “Cheti Aa,” Uppal decided to consider creating more voices in response to the response.
