Veteran Indian poet and writer Javed Akhtar has once again sparked outrage in Pakistan with his latest statement targeting the country. Known for making controversial remarks, Akhtar has often been criticized for accepting Pakistan’s hospitality while later speaking against it upon returning to India. Many Pakistani celebrities have called out this double standard before — and now, it’s happening again.
Recently, during a press conference on India’s ABP channel, Akhtar stirred the pot by comparing Pakistan to hell. Addressing the criticism he receives from both sides, he said, “I get abused by extremists from both India and Pakistan. If I didn’t, I’d feel something was wrong. Pakistanis say I’ll go to hell, while Indians call me a Jihadi and ask me to go to Pakistan. So if I had to choose between Pakistan and hell, I’d choose hell.”
Naturally, the statement didn’t sit well with Pakistanis. Celebrities and the public alike responded strongly. Mishi Khan slammed him, saying, “You’ve chosen the best place for yourself. Never even think of coming back to Pakistan. No one will invite you.” She added sarcastically, “Take your admirers with you and stay there.”
Imran Abbas also mocked the poet, saying, “Even if he doesn’t choose hell, he’s still headed there — maybe just in economy class. We gave him a Business class welcome; he didn’t deserve it.”

Furthermore, social media users jumped in. One said, “He’s already in hell — India.” Another added, “Even Hell would fear someone this hateful.” A third joked, “He’s a confirmed Jahannumi.”

Public figures like Sharmila Faruqui and Zhalay Sarhadi also voiced disappointment, emphasizing that such divisive remarks only fuel more hatred.

Clearly, Javed Akhtar’s words have reignited a fierce online debate — one that shows no signs of slowing down.
