The 42nd edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2023) will take place at the Expo Centre Sharjah and will last for 12 days. According to the press release, the event will feature over 1.5 million titles from publishers, distributors, translators, and bibliophiles across the world.
This year, South Korea will be the Guest of Honour, and the international event will see 2,033 publishers representing their nations. SIBF 2023 will showcase 1,043 Arab and 990 international publishers, with over 1.5 million titles on display, including 800,000 in Arabic and 700,000 in other languages.
The top publishers from India, the UK, and Turkey will be participating in the international lines, while the UAE will lead the list of Arabic participants with 300 publishers presenting their latest works. Egypt will follow with 284 publishers, then Lebanon with 94, and Syria with 62.
The event will also host some of the most prominent Emirati literary figures, including poet and researcher Khaled Al-Badou, author Dr. Mashael Al Nabooda, author and journalist Adel Khozam, author and journalist Mohammed Al Jokar, researcher and author Suad Al-Araimi, author Fathia Al Nimr, author Dr.
Aisha Al-Ghais, author Saeed Al Badi, and others in the literary scene.
The Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) 2023 will welcome a number of renowned Arab writers and poets, including Ibrahim Al-Koni from Libya, who will be the ‘Cultural Personality of the Year’. Other Arab writers and poets who will participate in the event are Ahlam Mosteghanemi from Algeria, Ahmed Mourad from Egypt,
Dr. Mohamed El Ghandoor, Bothayna Al Issa from Kuwait, Tarek Emam, Talal Haydar, Nour Abdel Megiud, Reham Ayad, and Sarah and Hagar Abdul Rahman. Additionally, several Arab poets will also be present, including Fahad Al Shahrani from Saudi Arabia, Nasser Al Wubeir from Qatar, and Sharean Al Deehani from Kuwait.
The international stars who will participate in SIBF 2023 are equally remarkable. This year, the event will host Nobel laureate in Literature Wole Soyinka from Nigeria, Canadian journalist, author, and public speaker Malcolm Gladwell,
Indian actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swedish bestselling author and lecturer Thomas Erikson, Bulgarian author and poet Georgi Gospodinov, Czech-Canadian scientist and author Vaclav Smil, American astronaut Sunitha Williams, Dutch author, speaker, and life coach Swami Purnachaitanya, Indian author Monica Halan, and several others.
