Falak Shabir, the renowned Pakistani pop singer who gained fame with his breakout hit Roag, is once again in the spotlight—but this time for stirring controversy. Known for chart-topping songs like Ijazat, Tu Mera Dil, Kamli, Me Aur Mein, and Soniye, Falak has built a reputation for his soulful voice and dedication to original music. With millions of views on YouTube and performances at concerts worldwide, he continues to stay relevant in the music scene. Recently, he lent his voice to the OST of ARY Digital’s upcoming drama Sher.

However, it’s not just his music making headlines. Falak recently took to Instagram to call out fellow singers—especially those relying on legendary qawwals by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan instead of creating new content. In a bold Instagram story, Falak wrote,
“Khan Shahab ko unki aakhri aramgah mein tu aram karne dein, please. Work on some originals. I think we should let Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s soul rest in peace and produce something new.”

Though he didn’t mention any names, fans were quick to interpret it as a subtle dig at Atif Aslam, who recently covered one of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s iconic qawwalis. The internet erupted with mixed reactions. While many defended Atif, praising his rendition, others sided with Falak, insisting that the classics should remain untouched.
Some fans accused Falak of jealousy, while others appreciated his emphasis on originality. Regardless of which side they’re on, everyone agrees—Falak’s statement has ignited a fresh debate in Pakistan’s music industry.

With the spotlight now on originality versus revival, only time will tell how fellow artists respond to Falak’s pointed remarks.
