Recently, in a vlog, Noman shared his humorous yet critical take on how Pakistanis behave during the holy month of Ramadan. With his signature sarcasm, he pointed out the irony of how this spiritually significant month often brings out the worst in people instead of fostering patience and self-discipline.
“Basically, Allah sent Ramadan for Muslims, not for Pakistanis,” Ijaz remarked. “Yes, Pakistanis do fast, but they can’t handle it. They lose patience, get angry, and bad-mouth each other on the roads. Instead of waiting for the signal to turn green, they start fights and hurl abuses. We behave the worst in Ramadan—although, to be fair, we aren’t great in other months either. On top of that, we become lazy. People skip work and use prayers as an excuse to avoid responsibilities. They misuse Farz Ibadat for personal convenience, completely disregarding its true purpose.”
His critique sheds light on a much larger issue in society. Instead of embracing the true essence of Ramadan—patience, self-control, and empathy—many struggle to embody these qualities. The month, meant to elevate the soul, often becomes a period of heightened frustration, where hunger and fatigue bring out people’s worst behavior. This starkly contrasts with the peace and spiritual reflection that should define this sacred time.
Noman Ijaz’s candid remarks serve as a wake-up call. If Ramadan is meant to teach discipline and kindness, then perhaps it’s time for Pakistanis to reflect on their actions and truly embody the values this holy month stands for. As he puts it so bluntly, “We behave the worst in Ramadan.” Maybe this is the year we finally change that.
