Looking for some fiery comebacks to handle unsolicited comments? Take a page from Komal Aziz’s playbook. The actor-turned-businesswoman, who recently launched her own clothing store, took to Instagram Stories to answer a series of questions with her signature no-holds-barred approach.
When asked, “Why have you gained weight?” in Urdu, Komal responded with a sharp, witty reply. “Slowly turning into a seth [businessman] with a mota pait [fat stomach],” she wrote, adding a wink/laugh emoji. She quickly followed up, saying, “Just kidding. Running a business is stressful. I end up stress-eating during difficult times.”
Komal’s honesty didn’t stop there. She added, “I don’t smoke, so I end up eating to calm myself,” addressing the comment with her typical candidness.
Stress has been a constant in Komal’s life recently, especially as she moved her business to a new location. When asked, “What’s the reason behind shifting?” she replied, “The landlord was being over-smart, acting greedy, so I said bye.” Showing resilience, Komal reflected on the challenges women face in business, saying, “A lot of weak men think a woman running a business alone is exploitable. Little do they know.”
While most of the comments praised Komal’s entrepreneurial spirit, she didn’t shy away from addressing criticism. One commenter suggested, “Kindly reduce the price so more people can purchase it.” Komal responded bluntly, “Kindly start working harder to make more money. Maybe get a second job. Upskill yourself.” Defending her store’s pricing, she added, “The clothes at [my store] are the most affordable, especially during sales.”
The lesson here? Take a cue from Komal: in any venture, a thick skin and confidence will carry you far.
